Lore & Background

Sun Haven is a pixel art farm sim video game where players can farm, fish, mine, and romance NPCs. The game begins with a cutscene featuring Lynn, followed by a train ride during which a blackout occurs. Upon arriving in the town of Sun Haven, players can place their house anywhere on their farm. Unlike many farm sims, the game does not have a stamina system. In addition to Sun Haven, three other towns are discoverable. Combat occurs in real time, with characters able to choose classes similar to those in Dungeons & Dragons; experience points earned can upgrade skills. Alternative pacifist options exist to avoid combat against boss characters and in story moments. Players can marry Lucia, the leader of Sun Haven.

Reader's Guide

Sun Haven was developed and published by Pixel Sprout Studios, an American indie developer based in Los Angeles. It entered early access on June 25, 2021, following a successful 2020 Kickstarter, and fully released on March 11, 2023. The game was ported to the Nintendo Switch in North and South America on November 29, 2024, and in Europe on December 16, 2024. Cross-platform play and multiplayer were initially not available. In mid-2024, version 1.4—the largest update to date—added new marriage candidates and an underwater region called the Brinestone Deeps. Reception has been favorable, with critics comparing it to Stardew Valley. Early access reviews from PCGamesN and RPGFan praised its hybrid of RPG and farming mechanics and its inviting world. After full release, GamesRadar+ noted it is like Stardew Valley but more magical, while WIRED called it 'cozy' with a rich storyline. TheGamer highlighted it as one of the few games to combine farming RPG with various other mechanics.
